ORIGINAL CONDITION OAK GLOBE WERNICKE BOOKCASE FROM EARLY 20TH C. THIS HAS THREE GLASS FRONTED SECTIONS. IT WILL DISMANTLE INTO FIVE PIECES (SEE PHOTO). This is an antique item, in a first-class condition. It has the ivorine makers plate in each of the three sections.

The three glass doors have original glass and they all work perfectly. There is no damage whatsoever, just slight marks consistent with use. However, I notice the base of the lowest glazed section has been replaced with what looks like hard board and has a neat chamfered edge. It's been properly done, and it has even been stained oak colour, so it matches the others, but obviously doesn't have any grain. It isn't noticeable unless you really look. The three glazed sections are slightly different heights... The max height of the highest is 34cms, then 29cms and lastly 24cms.

When assembled, the max height is 120 cms, the max depth front to back is 32cm at the floor and 28cm for the glazed sections. The width left to right of all pieces is 87 cms. A bit of history (courtesy of Wikipedia). The Globe-Wernicke Company was formed as a result of the Cincinnati based Globe Files Company est. In 1882 purchasing the Minneapolis based Wernicke Company , founded in 1893 by Otto Wernicke, in 1899.

The company is best known for its high-end bookcases, desks, and other office furniture. Globe Wernicke established factories in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France and Germany. The company patented the "elastic bookcases" also known as a modular bookcase or barristers bookcase These were high-quality bookshelves, with a standard width of 34 inches, in oak, walnut and mahogany, capable of being adapted to fit together to form a bookcase which could either be all of the same measurements or which could be rearranged by the insertion of units of different depths and heights.

These glass-fronted shelves are today collectible antiques highly desired by collectors. The item "Globe Wernicke Barristers Stacking Bookcase/Display Cabinet. Collect BA3 4XJ" is in sale since Saturday, October 5, 2019.
